Our plan

  First Scene:

Our music video of ‘somebody that I used to know’ will be about a friend group where one of the members began to drift away from being left out. The music video will start off with a flashback filmed at a high angle where everyone within the group is hanging out and playing video games. The scene will show how the friendship first started out and how no one was being left out. The outfits will be all themed to show how they are a group.

Second Scene:

The next scene will pan upwards to show two of the girls playing on the swings at the park while the girl that will leave the group stands on the side talking with them. She isn’t being left out, just showing how the girls are already beginning to diffituate from her.

Third Scene:

WIthin the third scene, the camera will be tracking them as they walk. The scene will show the two girls talking as they walk ahead of the other girl who is left all alone. During this scene is when the girl's clothes will begin to start losing the theme that the other girls are doing.

Fourth Scene:

The fourth scene will be filmed with the camera close up into the two girls' phones as they take a selfie with one another. The other girl will be only shown on frame barely and the selfie will barely contain her.

Fifth Scene:

The group will be sitting at a picnic table at the park and the two girls will leave and happily chat as the other girl tries to quickly pick up her belongings. This shot will be filmed as a mid-shot.

Sixth Scene:

The sixth scene will cut to present time and show the group in line for ice cream. The two girls will be facing one another and excitedly chatting as the other one is sadly looking down at her hands. The girl’s clothes will be horribly out of place among the summery vibes of everyone else.

Seventh Scene:

The next scene will showcase the out of place girl trying but ultimately failing to gain the others attention and to keep up with them. The other girls will ignore her.

Eighth Scene:

The next scene will be filmed with a tilt and show her trying to grab onto one of her friends. The friend will shrug her off and walk faster ahead.

Ninth Scene:

The ninth scene will be the filming of a one-person shot with the left out girl standing as she’s being abandoned. The atmosphere of the scene will be depressing and isolating.

Tenth Scene:

Then the atmosphere will change as the camera shows a two shot of two friends laughing with one another. They will be messing around and all together just having fun.

Eleventh Scene:

The next scene will show the friends walking off to the beach without the girl. The shot will be filmed over the shoulder as the friends are walking towards the sea with their back to the cameras.

Twelfth Scene:

The final scene will be shot directly on the beach. The girl's old friend’s will be sitting closer to the water as she is sitting further from them and the water. The scene will  be a pan out shot.

The scenes will follow about one-two lines of lyrics each.

Setting up a plan!

Props - For this music video, we decided on going for a story that follows a group of friends that slowly fall apart as one person drifts away. Since we want to capture a scene with the friends on the beach, beach towels, hats and beach balls will be present.

Costumes - This part will be very easy in our opinion as we will have regular swimming wear or just causal clothing. Though their will be scenes that won't be on the beach so their might be changes in clothing. For the swimming wear, it will completely up to the actors of what they are comfortable on wearing this shoot. Nothing to covered or revealing will be disagreed upon as the actors concern worths more. I'm sure most outfits people would chose are short pants with a t-shirt.

Schedule - Be aware that these dates might not accurate as we will need to see for ourselves if these can work with our schedules.

11/16/2021, our group will finalize our ideas of what we want for this project.

11/17/2021, our group will gather the need props for this and decide upon days that we will be up to shoot the clips.

11/19/2021, our group will complete the storyboard for the story that will be present in the music video.

11/23/2021, our group will begin to film clips for this project.

11/30/2021, our group will be completely done with the filming process and will be moving on to editing and finalizing what we got.

Location List - Our main location is on a beach, possibly at night but we will see. There are other possible places like the park where we would like to take a few scenes in. Also some scenes in the respected group member household.

Back Up Plan - A lot of miscommunication that happened because of this topic and for this we have come o the idea. If bad weather stops us from filing one day we will take it upon ourselves to shoot scenes for a another clip at a n another location. If one of our actors were to be missing and can't be able to attend for scenes they are in, we will simply edit them out of being in that certain scene and add another to take their place. Same goes if the camera person were to be missing,we will simply have one of our actors to take control of that situation.

Background research

 Research blog: Music Video  Conventions

Song: Somebody I used to know

Genre: Alternative/Indie, Rock

My group is making a Music Video using the song, Somebody That I Used to Know. This song is by Gotye. Gotye is an artist that released this song in July 2011. In the original music video, the audience sees a man trying to blend into a wall and a woman who obviously is not worried about blending into the background. She steps outside of the area that she was blending into and confronts the man. The man does not look back at the woman. Throughout the video, the man stays in the same position. However, at the end of the video he turns to look at her when all the paint that blended her into the background shed. In the beginning of the original music video, the singer sings calmly, to emphasize a sort of peace. However, as the video progresses, you see things go into a kind of disarray and the two singers are at a screaming match. It is important to recognize the details of the original music video because it gives us insight on what the codes and conventions of the song are.

Conventions

  • Despite the codes of the song that could be used for my group’s music video, there are quite a lot of arrangements that are habitable and accepted.

  • It is obvious that the artists are singing about the ending of a relationship. So, my group’s music video will be about some kind of loss, whether it be from a friendship or relationship, this is something that needs to be expressed in order for the music video to make sense.

  • Another thing that has to be addressed is the disunity that happens and that is expressed as the singers both raise their voices. My group’s music video has to represent the disagreement happening between the 2 characters in order for the story and the song to compliment each other.

Codes

  • There are many signs that the lyrics in the song have the potential to be portrayed in a different light for my group's Music Video.

  • The loss of a relationship that was mentioned as conventions could be portrayed as a friendship instead of a romantic relationship.

  • My group can portray someone leaving a town out of their own desire. We could even portray someone who is rejecting the help of someone else.

Group back together again

We are starting this new Music video assignment which requires a group. Lucky I really enjoyed working with Rose, Luka, and Zahra on our last project. So I will be working with them again. They are all hard working and dedicated to doing a great job. We all got along and there weren't any arguments or disagreements or anything like that. We are friends and we all like each other and work well together. We would text each other the day an assignment was due and make sure that everyone remembered and did it. We split the work between each other to make sure every one was doing their part. We got a good grade on our last project and I am sure we can do it again. We currently have many ideas for songs that we are thinking of. I am personally thinking about using Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo for our song. I was thinking about using this song because first I love it and know all the lyrics. It also a really popular pop/ pop rock song. As well as it being majority school appropriate and many ideas for the music video go through my head when thinking about the song. It is also really easy to make a video to the song since the song is already telling a story. And then all you have to do with the video is portray that story effectively. Most of the lyrics of the song are literal and you can easily come up with video ideas from it. Although we haven't completely decided on it. We want to make sure we make there right choice, being one that everyone likes. It wouldn't be fun to make a music video about a song you don't know nor like. We will surely come up with a permanent song to use in no time.

Let's make a music video!

Hello again! I am Vanessa, and today we are starting to do our new assignment. That assignment is making a Music video. It seems pretty similar to our last assignment, but with more parts. I am excited to do this assignment, I feel like it will be interesting. We can pick any song that is school appropriate of course. This assignment can be a great way to express your self and your creativity. It isn't something you should be lazy about. You should try your best and make it fun and interesting or depressing if you want. Thats why I am excited for this assignment since you can literally pick anything you want. You could possibly recreate a theme from your favorite tv show or a game that you like. I do have some ideas for what I want to do. I kind of want to revolve the video around the chosen song. Singing along in some scenes, while acting it out in others. I also want there to be multiple settings that relate to the video. Not like going to film at the beach while the song talks about how cold it is. I also want the editing to be amazing, I am a better editor now. I'm sure the editing I do for the music video will be better than the one for the last project our class had. I absolutely can't wait to have a more solid idea though. All I know is I want to make a video where people say wow when they watch it. I want to make it something so amazing that everyone loves it.
