Creative Critical Reflection

1.     How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? 

 

Our product uses/ keeps conventions by making the product as similar to other Crayola commercials there are. The way that it represents social groups and issues is by us choosing a brand that is socially inclusive to many social groups. Making them feel included. The brand also tackles social issues by letting people of different social and ethnic backgrounds comfortable using their products.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? 

 

My product engages with audiences because the commercial makes people happy to watch. That was a main goal of mines while creating my commercial. I wanted to make sure the audiences feel something from it, which is why I used happy music is the background as well as bright colors to induce a happy feel from watchers. The way that it would be distributed is on television on commercial breaks on channels geared towards children and families.

3.     How did your production skills develop throughout this project? 

 

My production skills developed significantly throughout this project. I learned many this consistent with the film industry such as You having to first make compromises, since there are multiple people taking part in one project there are bound to be some differing opinions. But what I learned from this project is that to make the production of our commercial run smoothly we all must come up with a concise decision on what to do. Also my editing got better since I had to do all of it myself I got to get tons of practice.

 

 

4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project? 

 

The way that I integrated technology software, hardware and online in this project is first with my research that I had to do before I even started any part of my commercial. I serched primarily on google (looking up pictures and sources) and YouTube (looking for examples). Then we used our phones to film the whole commercial. Then I used After Effects, which is a video editing software to edit our commercial, while we documented the whole process through our online blogs.

This is amazing and kinda of unbelievable, we are finally finished with the commercial. It has been a stressful ride for sure. The multiple times I needed to stay up late to complete work as well as blogs. The thought that all of the work me and my team did payed off is amazing to me. I know I worked hard on this assignment, and seeing something that I, with the help of my team made is a good feeling. There were definitely ups and downs during the process, but it worked out in the end. I think that our commercial came out nice. Also that it is something to be proud of, especially since I stayed up a little late to make sure the editing was as good as possible. I know I am so happy to have finished all of this. It was a nice experience minus the stress!

Today is supposed to be the final time we have to edit. Earlier in the day I was trying to get through the editing process. It was going well and I feel as though my commercial is promising. However I have been super busy today so I couldn't finish all of the editing today. Today has has been really exhausting so I couldn't even complete it. It is okay however since the commercial isn't due until the 13th. Some Ideas for the editing that I was thinking of using. One of those Ideas was to add some kind of effect or effects to the commercial to make it stand out from other commercials people have/had made. Since it would be cool to have our commercial unique to our group. Another idea I had was to add a voice over to the commercial. I was thinking about doing this because in many crayon commercials there is a voice that narrates what is happening. Doing this would be a cool way to make the commercial feel more authentic. That way it would feel like it was made by actually professionals which would have been so cool. Let's go back to me not being able to finish editing. Though I haven't edited since early today, and I'm currently not finished. Since I have been swamped the rest of the day to do it. Good thing that it is now due until the 13th. But I feel good about the progress that I have had from Wednesday and early Friday. If I do it continuously I could finish in an 1hour or more. Which is perfect for me and my group. We have all been working super hard and its going to pay off when we are finished and our commercial looks amazing.

                                                                 Time to start editing!

Today it was time to start editing. Since I wasn't here at school during the time when my team filmed I had to get them to send me the footage. When I got it I did not know what to aspect since I had no idea what they filmed and how it looked. When I got the Footage it was a bit of a.... shock. Some of the clips had kind of bad lighting and somewhat bad quality. I was Lind of upset they couldn't get better quality shots but that's just how it is I guess. Through I wasn't too worried about it since I can try and fix it while editing which is pretty simple. First I will put the clips altogether and then come up with a way to make everything look nice. The editing for the commercial won't be anything too special since all I would need to do is cut the clips and put them in an order that I want. And also add a song/ sound underneath that will go with what is going on. Then to fix the bad lighting I would add brightness then sharpen the picture. It is a pretty solid plan that I have come up with and will be pretty simple to implement. Through finding the correct song to use may be somewhat of problem. Well not a problem per se but something that I need to think about. So I will absolutely looking at the research I did earlier to find a song that would match well with the commercial. That is really important since the commercial has to have the right vibe. I will do my best during the editing process to make my commercial amazing. I am so determined to make it as good as possible. I have already started to edit and it should be finished tomorrow. I am also thinking of adding some type of effect to the commercial so it will stand out and look good. I will don everything I can to make this commercial amazing.

Hello again! Today was the second day of filming for our commercials, however I sadly could not be there due to having to go to a follow up with my dentist. Like I said in my last blog I got my wisdom teeth taken out last Monday. So I had to go to a follow up appointment to check if everything was okay today. Anyways, thats why I had to miss the second filming day, and since I think that was the last filming day we have I am majorly disappointed. I was looking forward to filming like when you're in a tv show or a movie. Sadly I won't be able to do that but I will have a chance with upcoming projects. However I am sad that I couldn't get the experience with this project, since it would have mad the upcoming one's a little easier. However let's look on the bright side. I can put all my attention into editing, since I already have a passion for a form of editing. Though not like the editing with tv, commercials, and movies, but it should be easy to switch to since it seems fairly simple. I would love to get better with editing and this could help so I am definitely looking forward to it. Especially since I feel bad about being gone for so 3 classes and my partners having to do it without me. That is also another reason why I would like to do most if all the editing. To try to make sure the others don't do all of the work since that wasn't my intention at all. So I intend on doing the editing also because I like it. My team members were understanding knowing why I couldn't be there showing that they are good/nice team members. Always hopefully I can get started with the editing next class, I will deffenatly be looking at examples to try and get it as good and realistic as possible. This will be fun and I am certainly looking forward to it.
