Today my group and I were supposed to start filming our commercial. However, I could not join them/ be there during filming since I was at home and couldn't be there. I should give an explanation as to why  I have not been at school for a few days. The reason that I haven't been at school is because, I have just gotten my wisdom teeth removed earlier in the week. It was an unpleasant experience that left me with pain and a swollen face. Going back to the main topic that's I couldn't be at school and couldn't film with my team. Today they already started with the smaller parts of the filming. Such as the intro and things like that. They decided to start with filming the minimal things so I could film with they next week which I am excited for. Hopefully I can be there on Monday to film with them. I am actually kind of disappointed that I couldn't help them today. I feel like it's a disadvantage for our group not having a member be there. But they are all amazing group members so they are doing their best and getting everything done. Also I can't wait to get back and help them with filming and editing and everything. I already initially was looking forward to this when we first found out about this assignment. I can't wait get back to school and film with them. Even if I am unable to help them film I will make sure to do the editing. Since I already have some editing experience and it would be easier for someone who edited things before and know how to do it. I also want to make sure that all the work is spread equally and don't want them to feel like I'm not doing enough. While I have only been gone for 2 days of class so much has happened for our commercial. I do feel like everything will be fine since my group is nice and understanding, as well as hardworking to be able to get this whole assignment/ commercial done.

First Scene-

During this scene we will be filming a kid running into a classroom. The shot will be a closeup-medium shot and a tracking shot. The first location will be a classroom. We wanted to include a classroom since Crayola products are mostly used in schools. The dress code is going to be school wear just so the audience knows that these are students.

Second Scene-

The next scene we wanted to include for our commercial is the kid going to a desk and grabbing the Crayola products. There will be a pan shot for the products right before the kid grabs it. This shot is going to be a closeup shot.

Third Scene- The third scene we wanted to include in our commercial was the kid running to other kids. The location for the scene is on the bridge to Fort Lauderdale’s main office building. This will be a medium shot. 

Fourth Scene- 

The fourth scene will be a kid drawing. Then it will tilt to show more kids drawing. This scene emphasizes how likable Crayola is. It also emphasizes how Crayola brings people together.

Fifth Scene-

The fifth scene for our commercial will be the kids leaving the bridge. This would be a medium shot.

Sixth Scene-

The sixth scene will be an outward zoom to look at everything created with the Crayola products. In the background you will hear Crayola’s motto, “Crayola: create, create, create”. Then, the video will fade out.

*Each scene will have its own side effects in the background.

Planning Blog

Props: Our commercial is going to be about Crayola. So, our group will be using crayola products like crayola markers and crayola crayons. There will be other props. These other props include: paper and sticky notes. These props will really help tie together our commercial.

Costumes: In our commercial, everyone will have a turn to be on camera. The outfits will be school appropriate outfits. This will help emphasize that we’re school students. 

Schedule: 

On 9/23/21, our group researched conventions and codes of Crayola commercials.

On 9/23/21, our group planned out the props, costumes, schedule, location list, and backup plan.  

On 9/28/21, our group will complete our storyboard. 

On 9/30/21 and 10/4/21, our group will record the necessary footage we need for our commercial. 

On 10/6/21 and 10/8/21, our group will edit the footage. 

On 10/8/21, our group will submit the final product. 

Location: 

Our main location is Ms.Marchionne’s classroom. In her classroom, we will create different pieces of art. This concept will show how you can make different things with Crayola products. The fact that the commercial is taking place in a classroom that anyone can use will help communicate that the consumer does not need to go anywhere special to be able to use Crayola at their full potential.  

Backup Plan:

If the classroom ends up overcrowded, our group has decided to write positive messages and stick them around the school on a sticky note. This concept will help emphasize Crayola’s accepting attitude towards all types of art forms.

Today me and my group have decided to start our research about our commercial topic. We have been discussing for a few days and finally produced a topic. That topic being Crayola crayons. We will use this commercial to “promote” them, but we need our research to do it properly. With this research we looked at different Crayola commercials and saw what happens in them portray it accurately as well as doing other things. Since we all have a deep connection with Crayola since it played a big part of our lives, we wanted to make our research as accurate as possible. This is also our reasoning for choosing Crayola as our topic in the first place. We also decided to have our original concept for the commercial while also keeping the originality. 

 

What was in the commercial? 

• Children using the markers/ having fun with the markers. 

• Bright colors and bright lighting. 

• Lots of laughter and smiles 

• The narrator voice over. 

• Soothing feeling  

• Friendly/ bright and happy music 

 

To be able to recreate the same feeling and nostalgia that we got from watching those commercials in our past, that is when we will know we are doing something right. As we would like to send the same image as the original commercials It teaches us the importance of having and making a colorful world out of nothing but small pencil-shaped pieces of color. We would love to be able to express power and creativity as it did for themselves. Naturally when you watch a Crayola commercial, the actors are mostly kids as the company often aims for that age range. We will not be using actors from that age range, but we would try to make it more appealing to the age range that we are in now. We will not have many props to go around except for the basics like camera, the Crayola of course but we will see as time continues to go on. We will try to match the same setup that the commercial provided. Of course, there's a chance where this might go downhill and with this idea in mind, we have a backup plan with things we can rely on.  When observing old Crayola commercials feels and styles, they often contain a wonderland like feel with bright colors and it would be a pain for some and comforting for others. It's nice to look at but even harder to recreate with less professional equipment. We would like to recreate some acting that happened in those commercials and use the dialogue from it and put it in our newly revision part. Our group will try our best to make this happen and earn the grade we will get for this; we would like to dedicate a lot of time to this to get it done. With this, we will be signing off with research for today and try get more for by tomorrow.

Hi, welcome to my my second blog! Today I joined a group to do my commercial with. I am working with Zahra, Luka, and Rose. They are really nice people who I believe will do their best on the assignment. I feel as though they really have an understanding of the assignment and the desire to do it the of our ability. The more detailed reason that I choose them was because first, we all get along extremely well. There are not any problems between anyone as well as everyone seeming to connect quickly. Which is important for a group to work well together, I feel like everyone feels comfortable to speak in the group so everyones idea can be heard. Also I personally feel as through working in a group is a great for productivity for completing a project. You can spread out all of the work and can complete it at a quicker pace without doing too much by your self. Which is also another reason as to why I wanted to join this group to complete the work. During my teams for meeting today we talking about our ideas for our commercial and  decided to spread the work between the 4 of us completely. We all threw around ideas for the concept of our commercial, we have a few decisions that we are really thinking about and we are sure to make our final decision tomorrow. We were think at first for something that we all have personally had or have owned. That way it our commercial will feel for genuine to the product that we are "promoting". I can tell that everyone in the group is super excited about working together. While there is a lot of work that we need to get done in a short amount of time, working together will make it less overwhelming. We have already decide to split the work evenly in a way that would make everyone comfortable. The way we have decided 2 people will work on research while the other 2 work on planning. Since they they are both going to be due on the same we like I said didn't want anyone to be overwhelmed.

Hi, my name is Vanessa and this is my first blog. Today during class we were getting all the information about this upcoming assignment you could say. But first let me tell you a little about myself. Firstly, why did I decide I wanted to be in media studies? I was looking for a AICE class to take and so I was looking at the descriptions for the different classes. As soon as I heard the description for this class I new I just had to be in it. Since I was young I have always had a love for entertainment especially when it came to movies and tv, I always wanted to be apart of that process, especially the acting portion. So when I found out we will be learning about many of the techniques used in these films and movies I loved so much as well as acting in it ourselves I was so excited. Even knowing that it will take a lot of work that I am certainly willing to do. I am so ready for use to start the film making process and go through this for the first time. Today we also found out that we will be having to make blogs during the whole process. At first I was concerned since I have never made a blog before, but it is easier than I first thought it was. Also doing this blog right now seems interesting, hopefully it will continue to be so as we do them. Also I somewhat have a few ideas about the commercial we are going to do. I am currently thinking about it being a shoe commercial for a brand such as crocs. But I also want to do something original, something that others in the class won't think of. Like maybe a commercial for a streaming service, or something like Spotify. I have a group planned out for the upcoming product, so they could probably help with coming up with an idea. I am so excited to make this project since, there is a lot of imagination that goes in this class, since you can decide what ever you want to do so I can come up with way more ideas with team members. I hope that this project as well as this class go well. I also hope that my blog can end up being the best that it can be!
